Giving Thanks

Lord of the universe, You are amazing!
You designed and formed the heavens and earth
and all they contain.
You open Your hand to provide
and satisfy the desires of every living thing.
From Your abundance You have poured out blessings and piled them up.
You are worthy, great God, of all honor and praise! Thank You for creating me,
for making me exactly the way I am and in Your image. Thank You for giving me senses
to experience Your marvelous world,
for surrounding me with beauty
that captures my heart and fills me with wonder. Thank You for giving me breath after breath
to experience You in myriad ways.
Truly, in You I live and move and have my being.
Lord, keep my soul awake to Your gifts I live with daily! I exalt You and lift up to You a grateful heart.
I worship You for Your infinite power and love,
for Your endless generosity and kindness.

Now, our God, we give
You thanks, and praise
Your glorious name.
— 1 Chronicles 29:13 NIV

O God our Father, we thank You for all the bright things of life. Help us to see them,
and to count them,
and to remember them,
that our lives may flow in ceaseless praise; for the sake of Jesus Christ our Lord.
— J. H. Jowett (1846–1923)

Heavenly Father,
receive my evening sacrifice of praise…
I thank You for all the known
and unknown mercies of another day,
for all the blessings of this life,
for all the means of grace,
for all the riches of Your salvation,
and for the hope of glory, that blessed hope, the coming of our Lord Jesus Christ
and our gathering together unto Him.
We are one day nearer to that day.
Teach us to live every day
as those whose citizenship is in heaven.
— Handley Carr Glyn Moule (1841–1920)

For the beauty of the earth,
for the glory of the skies,
for the love which from our birth over and around us lies.
For the wonder of each hour
of the day and of the night,
hill and vale and tree and flower, sun and moon and stars of light. For the joy of human love,
brother, sister, parent, child, friends on earth, and friends above, for all gentle thoughts and mild. For Yourself, best gift divine,
to the world so freely given,
agent of God’s grand design:
peace on earth and joy in heaven. Christ, our Lord, to You we raise this, our hymn of grateful praise.
— Folliott S. Pierpoint (1835–1917)

May the Lord be blessed forever for the great gifts He has continually heaped upon me,
and may all that He has created praise Him.
— St. Teresa of Ávila (1515–1582)
