Peace and Goodwill to All

Glory to God in the highest, and on earth peace, goodwill toward men! — Luke 2:14 NKJV

When we hear the word goodwill, most of us probably think first of Goodwill Industries International.

Founded in 1902, the organization has the following as its mission statement:

Goodwill works to enhance the dignity and quality of life of individuals and families by strengthening communities, eliminating barriers to opportunity, and helping people in need reach their full potential through learning and the power of work.

Goodwill Industries is an example of the goodwill the Heavenly Host proclaimed and celebrated at Christ’s birth. Jesus brought peace in more profound ways than human-kind had known, and nothing can surpass His supreme act of goodwill: the Holy One died for sinners.

Opportunities abound for you to continue Jesus’ work of peace and goodwill. Consider the homeless person asking for food, the neighbor whose health is failing, and your friend who is struggling financially.

May the peace and goodwill sung about at Christmas keep our hearts soft and inform our actions throughout the year.

Lord God, please help me be a person of peace and goodwill, not only at Christmas but all year long. Amen.
