In God’s Image

In God’s Image

God created human beings in His image. In the image of God He created them. He created them male and female. — Genesis 1:27 NCV

Some of us spend an enormous amount of time and effort attempting to prove our self-worth. A constant need to be validated impacts our work, home life, finances, fitness, and every aspect of day-to-day living. When we lack understanding of our self-worth, our efforts to excel aren’t motivated by the desire to do our best with our God-given potential, but rather, they are fueled by insecurity to prove we are enough. It’s an exhausting and unnecessary predicament.

As God’s people, our value isn’t decided by society. Our value stems from the reality that we are created in God’s image (Genesis 1:27).

Our accomplishments or lack of them don’t assign our value. God defines us and deems us valuable. This reality should influence how we see ourselves, and it should impact how we treat other people. All people are created in the image of God, and therefore every person should be treated with kindness and dignity.

Father, I am honored to be created in Your image. My worth is found in You alone. Give me eyes that see Your image in all people, and help me treat others in a way that honors You.

You were bought with a price. So glorify God in your body. — 1 Corinthians 6:20 ESV

Most of us measure the value of things in currency and assign worth in terms of dollars and cents. But spiritually speaking, there are countless things that can’t be measured in that manner. In today’s reading Paul was reminding Christians we were bought with a price, so we are to glorify God with our bodies. If we think in terms of financial currency, we will vastly underestimate the cost of our redemption. The apostle Peter wrote that we were ransomed,

not with perishable things such as silver or gold, but with the precious blood of Christ. — 1 Peter 1:18-19 ESV

Our redemption was so costly it demanded the blood of the sinless Son of God. It’s a staggering thought, isn’t it? But Jesus willingly paid that costly sum. A Christian’s worth can never be estimated in dollars and cents. Our worth was settled at Calvary when Jesus paid the ultimate price for our redemption.

Lord, thank You for being willing to pay the highest price possible for my redemption. Increase my wisdom so I know how to honor You with my body. Help me to remember You alone define my worth.
