Jesus In Me Week 7 — Reflecting the Purity of the Holy Spirit

Jesus In Me Week 7 — Reflecting the Purity of the Holy Spirit

You must be holy for I am holy. — 1 Peter 1:16

Holiness is to be like Jesus. ~ Anne

Friends, Can you believe we’re nearing the finish line? Wow! This is one of our longer studies and yet it has gone by so fast because it has kept me hungry every single week. How about you?

Y’all know (I’m living in the south now, so I can say “y’all”) how good the enemy is at his job. Well, teaching on purity has the tendency to turn people off because purity is a joke in our culture. It seems like it’s become out of date. Not cool. Stodgy, old-fashioned, stuffy, dusty. Seems like the devil’s done his job pretty well.

And yet, to be holy just means that we’re set apart by God. We’re set apart especially by the Lord to do good things His Kingdom, to work alongside Jesus and be His ambassadors. As His people we are to be holy. Talk about cool!

That’s why the Holy Spirit gently shines the light on areas of our lives that need to be addressed. We can comply or He will get pushy! He’ll bug you. The things that used to be fun won’t be so fun anymore — at least that’s my experience!

The Holy Spirit has gotten on my case about my attitude, my language, not getting into the Word on a daily basis, my food issues, grumbling and ingratitude, not banking on Him when He’s already told me He’ll do something, and on and on. So often I’m a faithless person and I have to go back and be filled again by the Holy Spirit because I’ve lost sight of who He is and I’ve listened to the great Liar again. It makes me so mad!

You and I, as believers, are free from sin. Free. Confession is our ticket back to that freedom. So God’s conviction is profound kindness! Every time the Holy Spirit pricks our hearts it’s in His kindness reminding us that we need to be cleaned up again. For freedom! Don’t you want it? I do!

Amen!

Prayer for the Week

Holy Spirit, we love You. You are so dear to us. Thank You that You want us to be holy, set apart for You. Help us to honor holiness, not to see it as goofy, or weird, or out-dated. We want to be pure for You. We want You to come and clean out the yuck in our lives that block us from hearing You and being the best we can be in these earthly bodies. Shine Your light on the dark places and show us what we don’t even see. Come fill us again. We love You, Holy Spirit! Amen.
