Prayers of Thanksgiving

Prayers of Thanksgiving

I thank Christ Jesus our Lord, who has given me strength, that He considered me trustworthy, appointing me to His service.1 Timothy 1:12 NIV

We give You thanks, most gracious God,
for the beauty of earth and sky and sea;
for the richness of mountains, plains, and rivers;
for the songs of birds and the loveliness of flowers. We praise You for these good gifts…
Grant that we may continue to grow
in our grateful enjoyment of Your abundant creation, to the honor and glory of Your name,
now and forever.
~Book of Common Prayer

O God, our true life,
to know You is life,
to serve You is freedom,
to enjoy You is a kingdom,
to praise You is the joy and happiness of the soul. I praise and bless and adore You,
I worship You,
I glorify You.
I give thanks to You for Your great glory.
I humbly beg You to live with me,
to reign in me,
to make this heart of mine a holy temple,
a fit habitation for Your divine majesty.
~St. Augustine of Hippo (354–430)

O God, the King eternal,
whose light divides the day from the night
and turns the shadow of death into the morning: Drive far from us all wrong desires,
incline our hearts to keep Your law,
and guide our feet into the way of peace;
that, having done Your will with cheerfulness during the day, we may, when night comes, rejoice to give You thanks; through Jesus Christ
our Lord.
~William Reed Huntington (1838–1909)

We give You thanks,
yes more than thanks, O Lord our God,… for all Your goodness
at all times and in all places,
because You have shielded, rescued, helped, and guided us all the days of our lives,
and brought us to this hour.
~Liturgy of St. James

My Father, I abandon myself into Your hands. Do with me as You will.
Whatever You may do with me,
I thank You.
I am prepared for anything.
I accept everything,
provided Your will is fulfilled in me and in all creatures. I ask for nothing more, my God.
I place my soul in Your hands,
I give it to You, my God,
with all the love of my heart,
because I love You.
And for me it is a necessity of love,
this gift of myself,
this placing of myself in Your hands,
in boundless confidence,
because You are my Father.
~Charles de Foucauld (1858–1916)

O God our Father, we thank You for all the bright things of life. Help us to see them,
and to count them,
and to remember them,
that our lives may flow in ceaseless praise; for the sake of Jesus Christ our Lord.
~J. H. Jowett (1846–1923)
