Ready

Ready

But even if you should suffer for righteousness’ sake, you are blessed. “And do not be afraid of their threats, nor be troubled.” But sanctify the Lord God in your hearts, and always be ready to give a defense to everyone who asks you a reason for the hope that is in you, with meekness and fear. — 1 Peter 3:14-15

God does great things, but He does not always do them during good times.

God often uses difficult situations to proclaim His salvation.

First Peter 3:14-15 assumes we are willing, but Peter wanted to make certain we are ready.

Rethink: If we are doing right and things go wrong, we often think God is being unfair. Yet the Bible teaches that when things are broken they are often blessed.

Difficulty is an opportunity.

Reassure: When we are afraid we want to retreat. The “hope that is in you” does not depend solely on you. Peter’s words are for believers in community, not as individuals. Notice the passage also refers to “hearts.” Share with God’s people so they can be your support.

Rededicate: Your testimony is only as good as your integrity. Nothing good will come from you if there is not something good happening in you.

Respond: Talk your walk. People don’t expect you to be an expert; all they want is an explanation.

React: God does not call us to win arguments; He calls us to win people. We need the right words, but what good are they if we do not respond the right way?

Dear Lord, help me to be ready to respond to those watching me not only with the right words, but help me to do it the right way. Prepare me as Your vessel to proclaim Your salvation. Amen.
