The Upward Spiral of Praise

The Upward Spiral of Praise

O Lord, You are my God. I will exalt You, I will praise Your name, for You have done wonderful things; Your counsels of old are faithfulness and truth. — Isaiah 25:1

There is joy that fills a new Christian. The immediate sensation of knowing you have been forgiven, of knowing you have been brought fully into the family of God, of beginning a powerful new life with Jesus as Lord and Savior, overflows in a new believer with great praise.

There is a depth of praise that is beyond fanaticism. A depth that only comes from knowing the Lord Jesus over a prolonged period, from experiencing firsthand His remarkable faithfulness. An example is when the Christian, who has walked with the Lord Jesus for many years, lifts his head to the Lord Jesus and with piercing clarity praises God. That upward spiral of praise that opens the heart and mouth is born from the heartache of lack, the physical pain of sickness, the devastation of destroyed dreams, and the dark night of the loss of faith. This upward spiral of praise ascends to the ears of God with great assurance and absolute confidence that He alone is the One who does wonderful things.

No wonder the prophet Isaiah wrote the words, “Your counsels of old are faithfulness and truth.” Isaiah didn’t claim that God had said things centuries before his time that were true. Isaiah testified that the counsel he consistently received from God throughout his life had proven to be faithful and true. As a result, his praise rose in assurance, “You are my God!”

Thank You, Lord, for all the ways You’ve demonstrated Your breathtaking faithfulness in my life. Amen.
