You’re Invited to the Forgiving What You Can’t Forget Online Bible Study

You deserve to stop suffering because of what other people have done to you. ~ Lysa

He heals the brokenhearted and binds up their wounds.— Psalm 147:3

Friends, I want to invite you to something very special to my heart. The Forgiving What You Can’t Forget Online Bible Study (OBS) by Lysa TerKeurst starts August 9th and I’ll cut to the chase… you need this. I need this. Because I’m betting people have hurt you. Badly. Me too.

As Lysa writes in the book, “We all have a story… revisiting the past can be scary. But if we want to fully heal, we need to dig into our stories to understand what’s behind the curtain. Forgiveness isn’t just about what’s in front of us. Sometimes, a bigger part of the journey is uncovering what is informing us from long ago.”

Maybe one day when we can sit down together in person over some sweet tea or lemonade, I’ll share my story and you can share yours. But for now, know that members and leaders of our OBS team have had our struggles with forgiveness and deep hurt, from childhood to adulthood, and we are still working through the process right alongside you.

Forgiveness.

“We know God commands us to do it. But how? Why? When? And are there exceptions?” Lysa writes.

How do you forgive family or trusted loved ones who choose to be enemies?

How do you forgive yourself when you’ve made terrible mistakes and hurt other people?

How do you forgive people who’ve permanently damaged you?

How do you forgive people who never say they’re sorry?

How do you go on and have a good life? A beautiful life? A happy, Jesus-centered life?

Forgiveness is both a decision and a process. – Lysa TerKeurst

In the middle of the pain, it feels impossible. Offensive even. After we ask the How questions we may even have to wrestle with the Why questions.

Why would I want to forgive?

Why talk about forgiveness when I’m the one still bleeding inside?

Unhealed hurt often becomes unleashed hurt spewed out on others. – Lysa TerKeurst

If it is possible, as far as it depends on you, live at peace with everyone. — Romans 12:18

Forgiveness is for us. It’s God’s inscrutable gift — and command — because He knows that we need to be unburdened from the millstone of hatred and suffering of bitterness. He knows we don’t want to damage our future relationships or pass painful traits on to our loved ones. God wants our hearts to be healed even when we don’t feel ready for it!

Lysa TerKeurst has been through crisis, heartbreak, and hardship and along the way she has pressed herself into the Person of Jesus just the way I want to do.

Her book, Forgiving What You Can’t Forget, is quite possibly the most important and most in-depth look at forgiveness from a Biblical perspective that I have ever read, and I promise you, your highlighter will wear out as you read this and do the study! There’s so much godly wisdom to be found!

Lysa TerKeurst has walked this journey, carrying so many wounds that felt unforgivable, that she at first refused to write these lessons! But after more than 1,000 hours of theological study, Lysa has discovered that Scripture not only offers the truth about forgiveness that our souls desperately need, but practical ways to let go of our bound-up resentment and finally heal. Lysa says about these sessions, “If you were to ask me, of all the Bible lessons I’ve taught, which are my favorites? These would be it.”

In this six-week video Bible study, Lysa will help us answer:

Is forgiveness the same thing as reconciliation?

Does forgiving someone let them off the hook for the wrong they’ve done?

Is it possible to forgive a person who isn’t around anymore? Or will never be repentant?

How can I become less offendable, less injurable?

Can God help me with the pain of my past so I can move on from it?

We need this.

Living in the comfort of peace is so much better than loving in the constraints of unforgiveness. – Lysa TerKeurst

This study is for:

Are you in? As Lysa writes…

“Staying here, blaming them, and forever defining your life by what they did will only increase the pain. The more our pain consumes us, the more it will control us. Worse, it will keep projectin out onto others. And, sadly, it’s those who deserve it the least whom our unresolved pain will hurt the most. That person or people—they’ve caused enough pain for you, for me, and for those around us. It’s time to move forward.”
